hey y'all,

forum newbie here..

i'm looking to upgrade my real slow loading BR player (sony BDP350) to something faster and better.. preferably another sony model in the £200-£300 price range (im open to suggestion on other brand).. for some reason it's feel like something missing when watching a BR movie.. the sound and picture seem to be lacking some punch if you know what i mean.. my current set up atm is :

sony bravia KDL46w4000 lcd
sony STR-DG820 reciever
wharfedale diamond 9.0 speakers (5.1)

is it worth considering a 3D BR player for futureproof?

thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forums!

The new Sony BDP's are fantastic value and get great reviews. The "basic" BDP S370 can be had for around £100 - but you're right, it might be worth futureproofing, and going for a 3D player, if you're looking to upgrade your screen in due course and the Sony BDP S570 was What HiFi Blu-Ray product of the year 2010, is 3D and can be had for £150! (check out Superfi). This leaves you some change from youe budget to put towards BluRays, or towards the 3D upgrade...

I've got the older, non-3D BDP S760 and it's superb, the newer x70 BDPs seem even better, from what I've seen

If you want a faster loader, then change the player. If not, then the blu-ray player is the last thing to change in you system IMHO. The difference between blu-ray players is quite subtle, I would be saving up for new speakers if it were me (yes, I know it will not improve your picture)

thank for the welcome

the sony BDPs570 seem decent enough.. will check it out.. however i'd read that this player can be quite noisy when spinning a disc in the tray.. can you confirm if this is true as my old BR player make a bit of noise whilst watching a movies, especially during the quiet scene.. is this recommended BDPs570 be louder/same/quieter than the BDs350?

with regards to speaker.. i'd thought i got a decent set of speaker to compliment my current set up.. what would u recommend? it must be similar in look with the wharfedale i got as it would look out of place with my furnising.

thanks again

after 2yrs i'd realise why my home cinema setup didnt sound as good as it should.. it was the audio setting on my BR player.. all the setting was set to downmix pcm.. basically every time i'd watch a BR, the audio was playing at 48ks linear PCM lol.. i've just played Avatar again in true DTS HD master and the sound is totally AWESOME.. can't believe i didnt check my player setting back in 2009 :((

oh well lived and learn.. dont see the point of buying a new BR player now that i've sorted it..

but its thank to various comment and post on this forum past and present that led me to fixed this.. cheer guys & gals
