Hi, so just a quick question on certain features in equipment and to see people's opinions. Should I really be paying too much attention to likes of kit with HDMI, always feels as if that is a mark down reviews these days if something doesn't have it. Is it really worth it over optical even in 2.0 setup. Also room correction doftware, is this worth paying more to kit with this these days?

Thanks in advance

Totally depends on the importance YOU place on any given feature.
HDMI inputs won't sound any better than optical....but having one could leave you with a handy spare optical input to use for something else.

Physical (often simple) room correction / placement can be as good, or better, than electronic correction.

Know what features YOU want, rather than what others find useful 👍

Well I just bought a new Yamaha amp with room correction. Set it up, had been listening to it for a couple of days and it sounded pretty good, a little light in the bass surprising considering I have a sub. But I thought Yamaha know best, this is how the music should sound, then I noticed a button on the front panel Pure Direct pressed it and WOW the amp came alive, I won't be using the room correction again.

What was 'pure direct' actually bypassing on your Yamaha then Paul?
Are you saying that the room correction was being bypassed?

Yamaha Room Correction is rock bottom when it comes to performance (Particularly in auto mode), and requires spades on manual adjustment to get even a decent performance out of it, so I am not surprised you didn't like it.

HDMI is becoming the de-facto standard these days, so if you have one available it gives it more future proofing.
Getting the speakers set up correctly and treating the room (If possible) is the first thing you should always do, then use a good quality room correction system to finish off. (Dirac, Anthem etc.)
