Upgrade receiver for quad lite

At min I have onkyo 505 and looking to upgrade receiver, usual four suspects, yamaha, pioneer, denon and higher onkyo up to around 400. Can't find anywhere to demo with quads anymore. Want something maybe little more power than now, like pioneer but not sure if they suit the quads due to reports saying it has bright sound. Thanks for any advice
