Upgrade from Desire to One X. Would you?

Received a text today saying I'm due an upgrade.

Currently have a Desire which I'm very happy with. My question is, is the One X the default choice for upgrade? Have these screen banding/flickering issues been resolved?

I've been burned (no, not literally) by Samsung mobiles in the past, so the Galaxy S3 doesn't really appeal, although as non HTC phones go, I do confess to being rather tempted by Sony's Experia S.

All thoughts welcome.

I was very happy with the Desire, but when I upgraded to the Sensation, I was disappointed. It's got too many bugs. Have to restart it once a week or it slows right down. Also has signal issues. Now I'm not sure if I'll buy an HTC again. I thought of the Sony Xperia S, but didn't like its build.

Maybe the One X isn't so bad. Check the phone out for a week or so. If you don't like it, return it.

i had a desire, and upgraded to an S2 last year, then went to a Galaxy Nexus. Its funny, i thought the screen size of the desire was grand but when i went up to the next screen size there was no turning back. I'm very happy with the Galaxy Nexus, i'd recommend the Nexus range as you get androids latest version before everyone else. I cant understand why the likes of Samsung and HTC feel the need to add their own UI layers over android. The only downsides to the Galaxy nexus is that its capped at 16gb space, no micro sd slot - and the DAC is inferior to say something like the S3. The S3 is bigger again than the Nexus. I checked out a friends last week, and i wouldnt be encouraged at all to upgrade to it. The desire was a great phone but seriously hampered by the amount of RAM in the device...

IMO, HTC's Sense UI is the best UI amongst all phones, something echoed by many reviews as well. When I tried the Nexus phone after my HTC Desire, I hated the UI, & promptly returned it for HTC Sensation.

I'd go along with that, I've attempted to use non-HTC Androids in the past and they just feel very restricted, I wouldn't want to change now. I would like to see ICS on my DesireHD but I'm not sure that's going to happen now.

well i think with jellybean the stock android experience is very slick. There's nothing really in Sense or Touchwiz that cant be added with a widget or app from the android market.. and some do it better.. or i'll put it another way - whats in Sense or Touchwiz that you would miss? I think its fair to say that before ice cream sandwich Android was lacking from a UI experience but now its much much better..

i think the flipping thing is standard on my phone... if it isnt.. i can always add it via an App... http://compixels.com/13858/flip-over-android-phones-to-enable-silent-mode-using-camera-light-proximity-sensors-app same with the ring louder thing... its kinda two different approaches - i prefer stock android and adding these features that i want with an App or widget, that way i get the best of both worlds - timely updates to android and the best features of the other phones UI's i'd like. Its not without its downsides.. As you get the OS upgrades first, some Apps arent updated in time. For example I use Viber a lot and after my jellybean update it wouldnt work and the developers didnt update it for a few weeks..

Thats why have a market of choices. You prefer the stock version with early updates, while I prefer nifty features built into the phone without having to rely on apps for it. So it's useful to have a choice, which is what these different UIs serve. If you want only the stock version, just buy the Nexus. Simples.

HTC Sense is much more than just UI & a few widgets / apps. This is just one example:

http://www.htc.com/uk/htc-sense/call/

You won't know it unless you've tried it.

Theres some clever stuff in there, but the flip to speaker phone thing seems to be just covering up a pretty major design flaw. Did they seriously put the speaker on the back of the phone? I don't see any little feet to raise the back off of the table. Does speaker phone work flat on a table or in your hand without being muffled?

The main reason I use speakerphone is not worker collaboration but when I just want to check an email or an address or cinema times and continue my conversation. Or on very rare occasions FaceTime/Skype. I assume there is a button to activate speaker without turning the thing over?

I do really like the HTC in car mode on the One X. The way it gives you super chunky buttons to control your music library inside of the Sat Nav app was a very nice touch.

I will throw out secret option B though...

If your happy with it, why not drop down to a 30 day rolling contract and just pay £15-20 a month less? Go through cancellations, you will get some amazing deals.

The lower lip of HTC phones is curved a bit upwards, so the speaker doesn't get muffled when placed flat on the table. You can hear perfectly clearly even with the phone facing upwards. When you hold the phone, try holding it to cover the entire bottom bit of the phone, especially when it's curved. You won't do it normally. I don't think it's a design flaw; a clever design on the contrary. :)

Of course, there is a dedicated button to activate the speaker phone.

I love my One X, but there has been an issue with not regaining signal when it loses it. It isn't frequent, but it's annoying.

As for ICS on the Desire HD LHC, my old phone is a DHD and it's had ICS for many many moons via XDA. Get it rooted and booted.

I've even rooted the OneX now, although I haven't custom rom'd it yet. Waiting for a stable, fully functional Jellybean release (CM10 maybe).

I got the One X. :)

Nice phone. No complaints as yet except for the 'Case-Mate - POP!' case that came with the order from Carphone Warhouse. Appallingly bad, no button response at all. had to pretty much break the case to get it out:wall: ... £15 down the tube.

Bought a 'Case-Mate Tough-Case' (as I had on my Desire), much, much better. Happy once more.
