Just purchased excellent Quad Lite Speaker package and am wondering what my next upgrade should be? i am looking to change EITHER the amp or DVD player. I currently have a multi region Sony DVD (DVP S735D) connected to a Yamaha DSPA 595A all viewed through a trusty Panansonic TH42 PE30 (No HDMI). Will the Onkyo Amp (SR606)make a significant difference to my sound or will my money be better spent on the DVD. Any new DVD player needs to be able to use multi region discs. Any suggestions? Budget £500max

The Onkyo 875 is the one to go for, it has far superior sound. With the discounts being offered it's a bit of a bargain now as well.

As much as the Onkyo 875 is a bargain at it's currently reduced prices I don't think you will find it for under £600 (RIcher sounds VIP) which is obviously still £100 over your max budget. If you are willing to wait until you can afford the 875 then the collective feedback from everyone is that it is most definately the kit to have... I can't speak form experience but can only pass on the advice given to me as I have been looking to install my first surround sound kit.

I can't really advise which bit of your kit to upgrade first as I haven't seen or heard either in action, I'm sure if you leave a little more detail re what you want to get out of the upgrade i.e improved sound, picture etc then those that have knowledge of them will help you out.

Failing that you could take your system into an AV showroom and audition £500 receivers and £500 DVD players - my gut reaction is that a £500 DVD player will be superior to a £500 receiver so maybe there is a compromise in there somewhere - maybe try the 606 and put the extra towards a DVD player or even keep the extra and save a little more over time to get a Blu-Ray player?

good luck, let us know how you get on
