Universal Remote

I have heard the Harmony One is the best to go for, but also that it is annoying that there isn't the dedicated coloured buttons. Is this actually annoying? Or do you get use to it?

It's an inexplicable ommission. However, a lot depends on how often you use those buttons anyway. Also, the workaround (mapping the buttons to the touchscreen, for instance), works perfectly well. Would still prefer those buttons, however.

Yes coloured buttons is an oversight. But still best universal remote you can buy, and you do get used to the touchscreen.

i have a Harmony 525 and it's great! only one problem is that it doesn't have a dock, and it eats through AAA batteries like a ravenous dog (batteries need to be replaced every 3-4 months!). but still you could get one of those, and a bunch of rechargeable batteries and a charger for less than £100. and it DOES have the coloured buttons missing from the Harmony ONE.

Or, what about going for the Harmony 700? I haven't tried it, but it has a charging dock and the coloured buttons too.

One piece of advice i would give - avoid the ones which are TOO touch screen unless you want to spend your life staring at your remote control. Actual buttons are much easier to get used to without having to look at your remote every time you want to do something.

Whatever you decide to do - good luck with your purchase! :)

just to add... if i had £100 to spend, i'd go for the Harmony ONE. by far the best looking of the lot.

and if you take a wander down Tottenham Court Road, you can pick one up for £60 (with a little persuasion) ;)

Where exactly!? I work just off TCR and have been keeping an eye out for these on flea-bay for a couple of months now, but they are consistently going for over £80 - even seen a couple of lucky sellers get over £100...

I'm deciding between the Harmony one and Philips SRT9320

I'm not a Philips fan, but that remote screams sexy

I have a Harmony One and don't miss the colured buttons. They are all on the touchscreen. I've assigned a couple of spare buttons to take me directly to Anytime and my planner with one push of a button so the only button I use on a regular basis on the touchscreen is the yellow one to delete programs.

If you really want the coloured buttons then there's always the Harmony 900, an updated Harmony One that has the coloured buttons but there's a hefty price premium over the One.

this was a few months ago, so it's possible i'm not remembering the price accurately... sorry if that's the case... i think there were 4 shops that sold it, and out of those 4 there were 3 that eventually all came down to the same price...

I would go for Harmony. Philips looks good, but the customer support is not as dedicated as the Logitech. Also, Logitech is easier to set up.

i've had the harmony 1 for about 6 weeks now, was a pain to set up but customer support was first class and the remote is now the best gadget i have and would recommend, as others have already said you have the colour buttons on the touch screen and you soon get used to it :)

40 years ago man set foot on the moon.

SO Why aren't ALL remotes universal????

Well, at least SOME phone manufacturers of phones are moving towards USB chargers. But then there's about seven or eight different types of "Universal" USB plugs & sockets

How do you get the coloured buttons on the screen, is it automatic because I unwrapped my new Harmony One yesterday and they weren't there

Nadeac:I have the Harmony 555 ,and it was worth every penny ,and it has coloured buttons .I think it was about £50

My Harmony 555 is one of the worst things I've bought. It would hardly ever put the TV on the right input so it's going on eBay as I've had enough of it...
