I have a set of Tannoy Mercury F4 floorstanders, and after a prolonged session of high volume listening, im stuck with a pair of speakers that sounds worse than a mobile phone loudspeaker. Im pretty sure both tweeters and at least 2 of the woofers are damaged - i took them out and had a look but i cant see anyway that i would be able to fix them myself. Does anyone have any advice on where to look for replacement parts, as i dont want to fork out for a new pair of speakers.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info, another quick question though - is there any point in trying to 'upgrade' the woofers or tweeters? It doesnt sound very likely to me as the relationship between the box and the seperate components is very important, but maybe im wrong?

Not really - the crossover will have been designed to suit the characteristics of those drivers, as will the enclosure and its internal damping. I'd just give Tannoy a call and ask about the cost of replacement drivers.

Once you factor in replacing ALL the drivers (you've admitted yourself that you're not sure how many woofers you've blown). I'd be very surprised if it's not more economically viable to buy new speakers.

Don't forget, 'new' doesn't have to mean 'brand new'. eBay can throw up some great bargains if you're prepared to have a bit of a trawl.

Course, if the OP is really unlucky the drivers may be fine and he may have blown something in the crossovers, which he will only discover when he gets all the new drive units in.

That's why it's worth a conversation with Tannoy first...

Of course, we haven't even mentioned the fact that if you've killed 1 pair of speakers, then replacing the drivers with the exact same spec, you could have this problem again in future.

What's your amp?

Are you sure it is the speakers? Have you tried a different set?

There are problems that you can have with an amplifier that can cause poor sound, especially if they are quiet or sound like Daleks.

Thank you all for the advice, and yes i have tried them with a different amp, my power amp is an old NAD 2200 and the pre is a NAD 1155, i will have to give tannoy a ring and see what they suggest, just by the way could anyone suggest some replacement speakers for them, maybe it will turn out cheaper, but i dont want to downgrade so if anything id get some better ones, and just wait it out till i can afford them

Thank you all again
