Heyup chaps, long time no speak etc...

So, due to having an extrememly small cottage at the moment, the other half has limited the purchase of a new TV to one that is 'physically the same size' as my existing 32in Panasonic from some years back. The old TV is going to the inlaws to replace theirs.

Easy, says I, one can easily get some kind of thin-bezel thing with a much larger screen size than 32in, we're both happy.

Naturally, funds are limited, and the demand for quality is high, so something ex-demo/display is probably in order.

So: Size wise, 83cm wide by 58cm high (including stand) is the limit. What do you chaps reckon I can get that comes in under that? I'm thinking a good 37in, but they seem to be thin on the ground these days!

Cheers,

John

I will join you with this question.

We have owned the Panasonic TX-L32D25B since March 2011 so it has less than a year of it's JL 5 year guarantee left and will be replaced in the next 10 months or so.

I was looking forward to replacing it with a high quality 37" (or 39") model. Thin bezels and lighter construction means we can get away with the - slightly - larger screen size without it dominating the room much more than it does now. 40" would be the absolute limit.

Panasonic or Samsung, must have optical out for connection to the hi-fi. It would be a bonus if - like our current model - it's stand-alone sound quality is at least reasonable.

4K not wanted unless we don't have a choice. (Same for 3D.)

Not too bothered about price. I am prepared to wait for a premium TV to go down in price through the year like I did last time. (It started at £1170 and I bought at £549 a few weeks before it's range ceased production.)

If you want a cheaper TV, look at 40 inches. When there's more of the same size, competition ensures prices are low.

This is one of the best value TVs with exceptional picture quality for the price.

It's only 7cm wider.
