TV Sound Quality - views please

We have a Sony CRT which we purchased back in 2004. It still works okay, but eventually it'll die. We usually have the tv connected to the Leema, so any decent programme is transferred through the amp and Monitor Audios. We also listen to lot of BBC radio stations via the built in Freeview tuner.

How does the modern LCD like a Sony EX Range and Philips etc compared to the CRT?

I have the 40ex503, and, despite what I have read from other owners/forums, the sound is not bad at all, as long as you keep the bass high and the treble at O, otherwise it's very tinny. For general viewing, the sound is great, but playing it through your hi-fi or theatre system is 100 times better when watching films.

your crt will sound better, but if you're going to have the hifi connected then there should be no difference.

The max screen size is 32". Through its own speakers the TV sounds like any other 28" CRT. Pumped theough the amp it sounds pretty darn good. Our TV is fine except when you go into 'index' and the picture is distorted. No doubt the picture will eventually be affected, so at some point the Tv will need to be replaced. However, the CRT has set a pretty good benchmark. The Mother-in-Laws Sony LCD is brilliant picture-wise, but SQ on its speakers isn't as good as our CRT.

We have a friend that has a philips (no idea on model) and the picture and SQ is spot-on. Alas the Philips don't have in-built tuners.

The qualities we're looking for, or will be are: Crisp pictures, built-in tuner, good with fast motion, comparable SQ - both on own speakers and through the hi-fi - equally good with TV and DVDs.
