Hi

I would like a tv between 42-46 inches, i would like an excellent picture, great sound, great tuner. Just the basics but done well.

Budget well if there is a bargain to be had i would take that, if not and it was right then a fair amount. I would like a new tv but don't mind an older model if those things are done better on older models.

I think i should just leave it there and see what you say.

Thanks

Just make sure you avoid the Philips 47PFL7404 like a night-out with Amy Winehouse. Had a 47PFL7404 for a few months, returned it for full refund. Five-star rated? Pahh!

Not convinced that LCDs suit 42in and above - LEDs and plasmas only, IMHO.

What...?

LED suffers from the same weaknesses as LCD because guess what... it's still LCD. I agree with 50 inch and above, but up to that I think both techs can put up a good fight.

I understand you had a 9704 for a weekend Gel but weren't happy? Maybe it was deffective? I am kind of like you as when I lived with my parents they had the same TV you do, and loved it. When I moved out I got the 9664 and look at it as a bigger better version. All of them can go wrong from time to time?

Samsung C8000 maybe? saw one the other day and looked pretty strong.

Would not go with Loewe, seen some poor stuff from them and my grandad has one that's pimped out with swarovski crystals on the sides because he thinks it makes him "younger" but that doesn't change the fact that the picture is a blurry mess, even after I fiddled with the settings. Also saw clouding on 2 of the 32 inchers I saw in a hotel, so much for build quality, regardless if they share panel distributers.

I know max has been pushing the panny but all I know is that untill they improve the design a panny will never enter my house. If it's the best TV in the world like so many claim then make it look the part, it's not hard.

Another option might be to wait for the 9705, see if you like that...?

Top end Sony is another option but I haven't seen any of those.

I doubt that helps you as you probably knew all that or don't care... I know you're predicament (been in it myself) but hopefully you'll find the right one for you in the end. :p

Hi Duol

Thanks for that excellent post, all of that makes perfect sense to me, I thought i was the only one to have my current tv on here, i have never seen anyone else with one on here, when i looked at the 9704 and i also looked at the 9664 the one you have know and all my family preferred the 9664 and i was very impressed, the only reason i went for the 9704 was because of the sharper contrast.

Also because people were saying the 9664 was not realiable.

I have been considering the 9705 but i think it is only going to be the same as the 9704 but i might be wrong, when i took it back and said to the manager what i did not like he agreed with me totally.

i have always loved the philips tvs and the pioneer plasmas so i seriously don't know where too look now.

Thanks

I am surprised you say that Gel, was it the NX you saw ( silver trim at the bottom ) or the HX ( all glass )? For us the HX is the superior screen. We find the edge lit screens to have too much picture noise and a forced picture in comparision to the alternatives. They look fine for a minute or two but with sustained viewing there just is not the involvment that you get with other screens.

As you didnt like the Philips I would suggest you have a look at the Panasonic ranges and if you can see one you might want to have a look at the top of the range Sharp 8211 screen.

i was going to say (but didnt want to misquote him) that im pretty sure mathewpiano doesnt rate the nx range too highly , he says , as nick just has , that the hx range is where things really start to hot up for sony
emotion-15.gif
..

perhaps you can find somewhere to demo the two side by side gel ? just to be sure its the nx you prefer ?

I am not too sure which one i saw, but isn't that one your say the HX cheaper?

The pansonic are dark grey, i prefer black, i will have a look at the Sharp 8211

maxflinn:no gel the nx is the cheaper model , the hx is higher up the range ...

The nx costs £1700

The hx costs £1499,

So hx is the higher models so why cheaper?

Thanks
