Turntable and system for a beginner

Right,

 At the moment, I have my Uncles Sony XO-750W (I think) plugged into My XBox 5.1 Surround sound system. Its not very loud, does anybody know why it might not be as loud as my MacBook is when plugged into the same Surround Sound?

The chances are that your Sony unit has a phono level output that is far lower than the standard "line level" used by most other components. You may need a seperate phono stage for this to work correctly.

You will need something like THIS for it to work. Richer Sounds sell a cheaper one which should do the job with a gaming s/s system.
