Turning off

I'm sure that most owners of turntables have their own ways to turn off their whole system, a ritual perhaps, where each stage is turned off before another, perhaps even a theory behind it. Anybody want to walk me through your steps in turning off, which one first?

My gear stays powered up mostly and only power down every few weeks.but when I d.... firstly my amp gets muted and I power it off first after that it doesn't matter what way you do it as no signal can get to the speakers.

You start turning on[/b] hifi equipment source first, power amp last. If you do it the other way round, the source pops during switching on will be amplified and come through your speakers.

For turning off, it's the opposite direction, power amp first, source last.

If you still hear a pop while turning off your power amp (or integrated), you can first disengage your speakers through the speaker selector, then proceed with powering off. Some like to turn down the volume knob, I use the speaker selector switch, also very practical for swapping cables, unpluging USB DAC from PC etc.

Phono amp stays on, as it's awkward to get to, but my Uniti usually gets switched on in the morning and off at bed time, and the TT as required.

I suppose I could leave the Uniti on continuously, really. I only get a discreet pop when it's switched on, and none when the TT's switched on, or changing sources. I did get much louder pops from my 72/140 when switching on or off, though

What Vladimir said it is the best general advice. I've fortunately almost forgotten the last amp I had that caused 'plops' on switching on or off, and have for many years considered it a design failing. But with a turntable stage active, the system will be ultra sensitive to external noises and electrical switching. So, amp off first!

What Vladimir says but basically it's determined by what kind of set up you have. With my pre / power it's volume right down on the pre then power amp off firstly when shutting system down.
