I have recently bought a TX37 LZD85 TV and linked it to my Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder. I have wired them together using a scart as per the TV's manual but I can't record from the TV unless the TV is on! What could the problem be? Thank you for any help you can give.

You have to set the tuner timer in the TV to come on-the set does not have to be on but the tuner does.

See p38 of the manual.

Edit - having said that, there is a tuner in the recorder -do you have your aerial connected into the recorder as well.

Having had two Panasonic DVD recorders I am well aware of this problem. I had the problem originally when I wanted to record Virgin Media channels and it did only record what was on the tv screen at the time so when the tv was switched off it recorded nothing...

I could not find an explanation or cure for this on the web at the time so I bit the bullet and upgraded to Virgin+. Now I'm on my second Panasonic DVD recorder and use it to tape off freeview, which it does well, and with the tv off. So it may well be a legacy issue with your old recorder. something they fixed with later models.

I've left my digibox on in the past and it the HS-1 still recorded a whole lot of nothingness for hours at a time with the monitor off. Only way to record on the old models was to have the monitor on..

Yes, the aerial goes from the wall into the DVD recorder and then another lead comes out of the DVD into the TV. What do you reckon?

Thanks for your help,

Mark

I've never been able to use my aerial feed becuase reception is so poor where we live. Instead I've used Virgin Media and despite the signal coming in through both the coax and scart the recorder takes the picture as it appears on the screen. Theoretically it shouldn't matter if the screen is on or off but it does with these machines.

Did you try setting the tuner timer on the TV.If you are getting a recording when the TV is on and not off ,this should work.

Yes, I've tried setting the recording both via the TV and the DVD. Neither way works! I can only record with the TV on which seems unbelievable in this day and age!
