Bought 'Our Bright Future' last week at Zavvi as it was only about 6 quid and it's a very good listen, nice music, good recording, sweet.

Can't remember the name of the album but i have a copy of the one with "Behind the Wall' and "Fast Car" on. Very good album. I've hear nothign else she did is as good, so have made do with that one.

thats called tracey chapman.

i only like one other song form her back catalogue other than that album - telling stories.

Trouble is, there are some tracks ruined forever by having been overused for hi-fi demonstrations. You should hear the collective groan every time a manufacturer has a press event and loads up Hotel California...

Fortunately that doesn't affect the rest of us out in the real world! Why "Hotel California", by the way? It's a song about the end of all hope - just what are they trying to say about their products?

Agree totally! and the other artist that put me off by HiFi show (if you are in the room where the record deck is on demo) - Stevie Ray Vaughan!

No idea why Hotel California - it's just used for far too many demonstrations, usually by companies unable or unwilling to be bothered to find anything more original. Go to a hi-fi show and you'll see what I mean.

Note to self - must leave ivory tower occasionally and spend more time in the real world.

Its over-rated imo/e. and it happens here too, if you're a listener of popular music radio; im not anymore but i was when i was a spotty teen (nearly) who worshipped at the alter of al things grunge, it ruined ...Teen Spirit for me. And i had to stop listening to everybody hurts and losing my religion for a very long time...i think there were others, too...

some i grew to like again, osme not. dunno if that means anything about them or me.

I`ve been through the same thing Al. Here`s a few songs I loved before commercial radio ruined them for me, forever -

Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth - Meat Loaf

Summer Of `69, Run To You, Heaven - Bryan Adams

Dancing Queen - Abba

Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

More Than A Feeling - Boston

The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison

Losing My Religion - REM AAARRGH! You`ll never know how many times I had to listen to this once great song. Dear oh dear. There really should be a law against this. Feel sorry for you Al being a big fan of the band.

There are many, many others. You know, I wasn`t going to name the worst offender but I shall. CAPITAL RADIO 95.8 FM. Thankfully haven`t had to listen to them for last eight years or so but during the 90`s..... oh boy they were bad. Really, really bad. Thanks a bunch guys for ruining some of my favourite songs.

In case you`re wondering if I had any choice in listening to them the answer is no, I`m afraid I didn`t. My therapy sessions will hopefully finish in another couple of years or so depending on my progress.
