Hey guys ,interesting thread yet again on the TVs that no one wants to buy, with comments on games that they may have had 2-3 mins of demos on in the local comet or best buy. It does not matter how good your TV is, the depth of game play on a standard 2d TV is a million miles away from what you get from a 3D TV . The demos available on the PS3,notably the full motorstorm game now available are just superb, with many more to be released in the next few months, and i dont give 2 hoots what i look like at 9.00 or 10.00 at night in my own lounge whilst playing them!!

The sky broadcasting is due imminently ,yet to be seen how good but if you are spending £1500 to £2000 on a modern up to date tv and you are a regular gamer then dont let the constant negative comments on here put you off..

Is this the same tech that nintendo will be using for the 3DS which I guess it will be perfect for as the player always looks the screen straight on well most do anyway!!! Do you know who will be making the screens for nintendo or do they make them inhouse?

jamie.

As I understand it, yes - it's a similar technology. Some mobile phones available on the Japanese and other Asian markets already offer this 'no glasses' 3D for portable devices: it's much easier to do on small screens with very close viewing distances.

I gather the screens for the 3DS will come from either Hitachi or Sharp, the current screen suppliers for Nintendo.

gavin101:DrDamn you can get a great sense of depth and spatial awareness from a good TV that is outputing 2D without the need for a 3D tv to enhance gaming. Sadly my understanding of how it is going to work on games means that the overall resolution of the games is dumbed down to incorporate the 3D due to the limited hardware of the PS3 and Xbox although admittadely most games are displayed in 720P anyway.

As indicated in another post it's really a different level with a 3DTV. Really adds to the immersion and experience. Regular 2D gaming can feel very flat for a while after an extended 3D session.

There are some limitations with the current generation - however on any hardware you will have to make allowances as you are asking the game to do up to twice the work graphically. This is mitigated to an extent though. First off the 3D effect can make lower resolutions not look so bad, it's a quirk of the visual effect. Secondly some of the effects which are simulated in 2D can be removed as they come for free in a 3D game. What you need to weigh up is whether any drop in visual resolution or clarity is work the extra 3D may add. In my opinion when used in the right genres it absolutely is.

I remember going to Live 96 show in Earls Court (The best electronics show I ever went to) they had flatscreen Sanyo 3DTVs then without glasses (I still hav the keyring lol). So how comes we went backwards with the use of glasses in the current 3D sets? They did have a viewing angle issue though as Andrew mentioned in this thread with it still being an issue.
