tosh ep35 problems

my tosh ep35 will not output bitstream audio on any hd dvd with true hd, dolby digital, or dts hd.

when i press display on the tosh it says it is outputting digital pcm ! this also shows on my pioneer vsx lx60 amp as pcm. am i right in thinking that the tosh is is doin the decodin and sending as pcm to the amp ?

i want it to send bitstream so the amp does the decodin.

settings on the tosh audio section are as follows.

digital out spdif - bitstream

digital out hdmi - auto

digital direct audio mode - on

dynamic range control - off

dialog enhancement - off

speaker setting - 5.1ch

also to confirm i am choosing the sound option format from the disk ie, true hd, etc.

i have tried everything but cannot get it to send audio as bitstream, but what is strange is if i use a standard dvd the amp lights up with the correct audio mode ! but no joy with hd dvd. also i have the latest firmware upgrade.

any help before i throw it through the window would be gteat and save the price on new glass.

Do you switch the amp on before the player? Try flipping to another input and then back to the HD-DVD input to see if re-synching solves the problem

yes tried that no joy ! tried switching amp on first then last still no joy.

but the ep35 says in the display when playing a disk outputting digital pcm (so not streaming bitstream) even with the audio settings set correctly.

it is behaving as the ep30 that does all the decoding onboard. but it is the ep35 !

any ideas.
