Took a chance on an old Nagaoka cart.

having spent a few mins searching on gumtree in my lunch break, i happened to find an old Nagaoka cart for sale, just a few miles from where i live, so after a few emails, i arranged to collect on my way home.

paid the £45.00 and took a chance, i was assured it was new (never used) but old.

i hooked it up to my turntable once home, i'm very pleased with it. sounds fabulous.

its a Nagaoka Stilton TS-12 . i can't find any info about this cart. anyone had experience with these? or know anything about them?

i'm guessing this cart pre-dates a lot of people, so not much knowledge available on these carts!

it has a similar style to the Nagaoka MP300, with the allen key screws in the side of the cart.

I think i found a bit of a gem.

I bought a Stilton Nagaoka MP11 Gold in 1990 followed by a spare stylus, this was by a British company (Stilton) who modified cartridges by using the parts of the cartridge and putting them in their own body, they are no longer in buisiness.

Prior to this I had only ever read about very high end cartridges like Koetsu getting this treatment, the general opinion was that whatever cartridge was used they were either better than the original or worse.

I had the original MP11 Boron before the Stilton and for me the Stilton was better, I it still lives in my AR Turntable but now I am considering an upgrade, I think you have got a bargain there, enjoy it.

for the response, its nice to hear from someone that has experience of the "stilton" .

i've also just bought a Sansui SR 222, which should arrive in a few days, i'm hoping it sounds even better on there than on my current Rotel DD-TT.

i'm definitely going to keep an eye out for other Nagaoka carts,as i'm very impressed with this one.
