maxflinn:ukisbankrupt:I think you have to think like a business man.....and ask...."Is there a viable market in the current economic doldrums.....for a 2.5k retail priced kuro 'look and perform' alike from Panasonic? My answer for now is a resounding 'No' .
Get the Philips.
why will it be £2.5k ?? a 50v10 is currently £1500 , im not saying that pana can achieve kuro levels with the next v10 , but isnt it possible if the tech is made available to them ?? even at £2k , a new kuro in panasonic clothing would sell like hot cakes , in my humble of humblest opinion....
Part of the reason the Kuros were as expensive as they were was because of Pioneer's small market share, you'd hope that Panasonic's bigger economies of scale would enable them to come in under the old Pioneer price.
However balanced against that is the thought that if these TVs are as good or better than the Kuros they'll probably be marketed as premium products and also that a Pioneer representative told me that in order to actually make money on a KRP-500 Pioneer would have needed to sell them at closer to £5k, but the market simply wouldn't sustain it.
Panasonic aren't stupid, if they really have got a Kuro-killer on their hands they'll pitch it at the level they think they'll sell for, they know what they'll be able to get for it and price it accordingly, it's not going to be coming in at the bottom though.
