Looks like the people who brought us the oustanding Pioneer Kuro range have been busy at Panasonic. So I wonder, will we have the evolution of the Pioneer 9G Sets. One can only dream.

We're praying!!

It's a large chunk of turnover for us to lose, and the current Ppanasonic screens aren't going to get anywehere near that figure. If Pana can come up with something at least as good as the Pioneers for the prices the last Pioneers were being sold for, they'll be onto a winner.....and we needn't worry about losing 6 figures this year!!

I think you have to think like a business man.....and ask...."Is there a viable market in the current economic doldrums.....for a 2.5k retail priced kuro 'look and perform' alike from Panasonic? My answer for now is a resounding 'No' .

Get the Philips.

Who said it would be £2.5K?

And as reported, the TVs with the Kuro Krew's 'Infinite Black Panel Pro' are going to be available in both 2D and 3D versions, suggesting they won't just be the premium-priced sets.

Oh, and if you really want to stick with this 'premium products are pointless right now' thesis, this news story from one of our sister sites might give you cause for reconsideration.

I can't stand the greengrocer's apostrophe, but that doesn't stop me buying vegetables.

why will it be £2.5k ?? a 50v10 is currently £1500 , im not saying that pana can achieve kuro levels with the next v10 , but isnt it possible if the tech is made available to them ?? even at £2k , a new kuro in panasonic clothing would sell like hot cakes , in my humble of humblest opinion....

maxflinn:the_lhc:Got anything to back that statement up with?
[EDITED BY MODS - HOUSE RULES]

Well that's nearly two year old speculation.

The news story that Andrew linked to is more like it, straight from the horse's mouth, I hadn't bothered reading it before now as I'm not interested in 3D.

Well there's definitely a market for Kuro 50" at £2k and 60" at £3k - we couldn't get enough! Admittedly that is a little cheaper than Pioneer were originally selling them for, and probably the cause for them to pull out.

well if those 3d pannys can equal the kuro for 2d performance , and were not priced too silly , they should sell on that alone , 3d being a nice bonus ...

Part of the reason the Kuros were as expensive as they were was because of Pioneer's small market share, you'd hope that Panasonic's bigger economies of scale would enable them to come in under the old Pioneer price.

However balanced against that is the thought that if these TVs are as good or better than the Kuros they'll probably be marketed as premium products and also that a Pioneer representative told me that in order to actually make money on a KRP-500 Pioneer would have needed to sell them at closer to £5k, but the market simply wouldn't sustain it.

Panasonic aren't stupid, if they really have got a Kuro-killer on their hands they'll pitch it at the level they think they'll sell for, they know what they'll be able to get for it and price it accordingly, it's not going to be coming in at the bottom though.

Before or after the Pioneer announcement? My local Pioneer dealer said that orders for the Kuros went through the roof after Pioneer dropped their bombshell, seems like everyone had been putting it off, thinking they had plenty of time. I know I was.

I have seen used ones - PDP-508XD on Amazon selling for £1799. Can you actually get any new ones?? Are there any left??

My bet is that Pana is keeping the kuro design blueprints under wraps till a more properous time emerges...which is???? For now it need to concentrate on Sony as the latter intends on domination with 3D LCDs and eat Pana' alive.

That isn't a new one, it's the previous model. The last ones were the PDP-x090 and KRP-x00 range (where x = 5 or 6). Anyone paying 1800 for an older model is a mug.

There's 1 or 2 left if you can find them.

Why in dog's name would they do that? "We've got a technology here that could potentially kickstart sales but instead we'll sit on it and carry on as we are". It doesn't make any sense does it? And what exactly does "concentrate on Sony" mean, other than try to beat them in quality and hopefully sales. They're not going to do that by doing nothing. Just as well they've got the kuro tech then isn't it?

We couldn't get enough anyway, we were delivering them across the whole country, even Ireland, and when they announced they were pulling out it got worse! We were taking orders for screens that we weren't to see until 2 months down the line! But we were careful about it - we didn't have to inform anyone that their wait was a fruitless one.....

lhc beat me to it, but I was going to say that that price is well over the top for a very old model - the new LX5090's were going for not much more!

No, for now both Sony and Panasonic need to concentrate on Samsung and LG, who are currently running away with the flatscreen TV market.

LG? Really, do they sell more tvs than Sony and Panasonic? I suppose they're usually cheaper, but still, I would expect Sony and Samsung to be leaders in volume of sales.
