ok i'll just rattle off a hypothetical scenario, i don't know if it'll ever become reality? (maybe it is already?) but howsever....
you've got a shiny new wifi enabled hdtv.
a wifi enabled blu-ray player.
an active, wifi enabled 5.1 speaker system, including preamps, dacs and a remote.
you don't have any hdmi cables or speaker cables, just power kords, ok quite a few of them
so you spin a blu-ray, the digital data is streamed to the tv, which has the necessary codecs, and you've got your hd pic.
the digital audio data is streamed to the speakers and sub, each with their own dac, you've got your hd sound.
you wan't to play a cd. so you stick it in the bdp, select stereo, and the data is streamed to the two front speakers.
you wan't to listen to spotify. pc direct to front speakers.
no avr needed either right? no stereo amp?
so all you want is a neat "little" tv stand, tv on top, centre speaker, bdp, oh, and perhaps a wifi enabled sat box.
makes for a neat system, no?
