The biggest fault of DLNA against Airplay

With lot's of new mini tablets being released and refreshed, I don't want this to become Android vs iOS but It does strike me that Airplay is superior in one significant way

DLNA is only file based. Or is this incorrect?

I can't stream an app audio source like TuneinPro to a DLNA client. Only the existing video/music/picture files on the tablet/phone or NAS. The same applies to youtube type apps, I assume.

Good that such a thing does exists, but seems only particular apps need to be supported, rather than being built into OS. Don't see spotify mentioned.

Just really feel like DLNA are missing a trick.

I agree. I have a HTC Medialink HD which u plug into you tv/amps hdmi and then lets u stream output to it (much like an AppleTV) but it cost me £50 for a feature I feel should be standard.

Android 4.2 does come with builtin support for miracast so perhaps things will eventually change.

£50 eek ! It is a shame. I've commented on your Nexus 10 thread, which is surely an ipad challenger, but it's things like this that are a deal breaker. ( I'm sure google won't miss my sale)

It's interesting, given Apple often gets naysayers for going their own way, but for me Airplay trumps DLNA, but of course it's all to lock you into the ecosystem.
