Wow! Now that's very interesting!!

I wonder if mine is 9.5G or not. :?

Is there any way to find out?

My thoughts exactly. How can a 95G Krp500a be identified? Are they really real?

EDIT: though I do seem to remember that the KRP Kuros were supposed to be better than the lx5090 and lx6090 screens. Maybe that's why the krp500a looked better than the other kuro.

I seem to remember being told in a specialist shop by a man called Dan, that the Pioneer LX5090 and KRP500a had the same screens. Still, this is intriguing about the 9.5G Kuro. I feel that I am not qualified to comment further, since I have only an uncalibrated (albeit set up with the Spears and Munsil disc) LX5090. I'll go and cry into one of the three ports of my SVS subwoofers.

There must be some way of finding out by the serial number.

One thing I have noticed though is that the KRPs sell for much more than the LX models on eBay,

Yes, the screens were same, but reviewers found KRP series' to be superior to the LX series:

http://www.avforums.com/review/Pioneer-KRP-500A-Review.html

"Starting off with normal SD material was an eye opener. The 500A looked crisp and natural with very little noise in the image. This was surprising as Pioneer had claimed there shouldn’t be any major differences between the 500A and the 5090. However it was clear to see that the KRP was smoother and more pleasing on the eye than the 5090. I am a little stuck on why there are differences and indeed asking Pioneer didn’t provide any firm answers either. It would appear that because these models are three months on from the first 9G screens, along with having new components and no internal tuners, they have an edge in picture terms. Plus the fact that [colour space 2] is also now accurate to the standard and the all in one models are still under saturated in this mode also adds some further evidence of the differences."

http://www.hdtvorg.co.uk/reviews/plasma/Pioneer_KRP-500A.htm

"Where the KRP-500A pushes screen performance boundaries is with its Pure AV mode. AV Mode adds a touch more sharpness, a touch more depth and a touch more colour accuracy over the LX5090."

By the way, bb, have you read strapped for cash's comments on the Leicester event? He commented on the Samsung plasma F8500 anticipation thread, start reading from Sunday evening onwards.

As a proud owner of one of the last KRP600s, the report only confirms what Kuro owners already know. Spent an hour in Selfridges last week and viewed a £35k samsung 84, Panny 65 plasma and big LG 4K. Not ideal lighting and each very impresive in their own right, but returning home to the KURO left me feeling that progress has been very limited, despite the hype. 3D is a gimmick to my eyes and too much investment has been diverted into that commercial disaster area. Been watching nature watch on Beeb HD and the camera aperture and depth of field were self evident as were the stunningly natural greens. Kuros also produce superb whites and yellows - just as important as black IMHO.

Am stretching my memory here, but am sure I recall the WHF review of the final KURO model emphasising the 'PURE' picture mode as the key differentiator, stating that it produced a picture that was an improvement on the previous model. Not sure if this was due to different internal components, or simply the pioneer engineers going out with a bang by including a picture setting that they felt was calibrated to produce the optimum possible picture quality from the panel they'd produced.

Yes I did. Interesting observations; I did expect a close contest between the VT65, ZT60 & F8500. I'm going to the Walsall event on Sunday. Will report back.

I seem to remember that in the USA, the 9G series were sold as "Elite" and that the LX screens didn't have "Pure" mode available, and that this was introduced with the KRP screens. Is (Was?) Pure mode available on LX screens sold in the UK?

But having said this, a lot of articles state that the KRP was better than the LX (using the term "Kuro Reference Panel"). It all sounds too good to be true and then I read this

To be honest there is NO point in people going on these days about Pioneer TV's given that they jumped out of the race.

Panasonic TV's seem to hit the mark as far as MOST people care when it comes down to 'the black levels'

Black levels.... not to the eye but a device.... c'mon.... if it looks great to YOU..... ( :) )

Actually, there is a point, for current Kuro owners. You may not have noticed, but a number of.Kuro owners are upgrading their TVs now, or are thinking of upgrading. It's impossible to compare the current crop of TVs with a Kuro, except at such events. Most of the contributors on this thread so far are Kuro owners.

There's no 'PURE' mode my LX panel (am in the UK).
