Hey guys. My old technics su v4 is making a strange sound the last 2 days. Its kind of hissing. It doesnt matter if it plays or not, if its open it makes that sound. It is weird because after a while it stops for some time and then its start all over again. I ve open it to check where the sound comes from and its from the power supply. Any ideas?

It’s maybe not what you want to hear, but unless you know what you’re doing then it surely needs checking by a service engineer? It’s pretty old, so likely needs several components changing. Capacitors often fail first, but it could be anything.

The hissing, is that through the speakers, or a mechanical noise from the amplifier? Does it still play music?

Its kind of hissing/coil whine from the component i post. I think its the power supply. The noise can be heard only when in low volume. When i play loud it cant be heard. Its still there but not audioble.

Give maple audio a ring (if you're in the UK) and talk it through with a professional who fixes things every day for a living. Even it cost 2-300 quid there is precious little around at that sort of price new these days.

Thank you for the advices. I will ask a profesional but repair prices might be out of the since we are talking about such an old amp. Otherwise ill roll with it until it dies :(
