TCL C655K (55C655K)

this looks great i have the previous model 50 inch 2023 It works very well for the money and i suspect this will as well. Would i buy one ? difficult as there is nothing wrong with my own TCL . But i probably upgrade to a 55 QLED Hisense one day

I own this TV. The UK android TV version. I bought it only for my ps5. Anything I say from this point on is only in relation to videogames. It's initial picture settings out of the box are admittedly terrible. I've done extensive messing around and am by no means an expert, but I know how my videogames should look and these are the settings that make this TV look great. Bear in mind, there are separate settings for HDR and SDR on the same source. It's initially very confusing, I didnt realise why my settings were changing all the time or not saving. But it's because HDR and SDR settings are separate. But it's pretty dumb cos you need the same settings for both.

Main picture settings
Preset - Movie (the only one worth using)
Brightness - 40
Colour Saturation - 48

Advanced settings
Brightness settings
Contrast -90
Black level - 46 ( very important)
Dynamic contrast - off
Black Stretch - off (doesn't seem to do anything)
Dynamic tone mapping - toggle on (HDR only setting)
Local contrast - High ( The single most important setting. You must turn this on.)
Gamma - 2 (yes seriously 2)

Colour settings
Saturation - 48
Tint - 50
Temperature - I use warm -3. But -5 and +5 also looks great.

Clarity
Sharpness - I like 24. You do you though.

There are significant issues with the grey wash, but these settings helped minimise it for me, cos it was driving me crazy. You could probably stand to go darker if that's your thing, but I like to be able to see in the shadows. Some people like the colours more vivid and even more contrast. Y'all really need to learn your way round your TV settings. But yeah the local contrast setting is the game changer with this TV. It's like fake local dimming. Brings out so much detail in the scene. Turn it on, you won't go back.

Lastly you want to go to system settings and game master and turn everything on except for the 120hz DLG (dual line gate) option. This TV has fake 120hz, it's not worth using for anything because it halfs your resolution making your games a blurry mess. It's shitty marketing. Anybody saying this TV does 120hz is lying. Any reviewer saying this TV does 120hz is lying and hasn't tested it properly. This is a 60hz panel. End of discussion.

Heya, I just saw this review so I thought I made a mistake buying this TV even though it took ages researching it all, but I hoped they just didn't have the right picture settings applied and this has definitely soothed my worries a bit 😅 Thank you so much, I'll be trying this.

Please please please let me know how you get on. Bear in mind if you aren't on the UK android TV firmware then your settings menu may be a different layout from mine. I'm aware of 3 different versions of this TV with different operating systems, and over 8 different firmware versions depending on which country you are in apparently. It's a bit of a mess.

I have the 50 inch 2023 TCL for £256 . We for at least 6 months had problems with the TV kept on switching on to shop mode every time we switched it on ( yes tried the updates ,so i thought) Then it clicked , press of a button, it never came back on. The instructions for this is in Chinese (english) in other words a foreign language . And now after over a year , well happy with it . What do you expect for £256? The next TV i get is likely to be a Hisense now. (not a TCL ) we run a Sony 2016 in the bedroom a 48 inch . To be honest if someone gave me £1300 for a TV it would be a 50 inch Sony . Considering i have a 8 year old Sony ,it certainly punches well for a old TV. Just lacks the 2k So we will keep the TCL until ,whenever.
