After a year or so of the Boston XS and suffering from the poor dialogue (just my experience ) and not so good music rreproduction I am considering Tannoy Rev DC4T on their own. It's a very long journey for me to audition, So, any thoughts would be appreciated .

will the dialogue be any better as I know Tannoy are good for this. I am pretty sure that music will be better.

Not worried about losing the sub as the really deep bass gets on my nerves anyway and it's only halfway on, and we don't watch movies, but like music DVDs.

would DC6T s be a better bet ? I have a Yamaha RX667 reciever. Also wifey would prefer the light oak finish which is pretty rare on speakers.

thanks very much

Anyway , although no one has replied I thought I'd add a comment :

I was also wondering if Rega RS3s are any good for TV use aswell as the obvious Hi-fI ? I see I can get these for similar money 2nd hand whereas there are no DC4Ts available ever.

If there was somewhere I could go to hear all these speakers I would go but there seems to be nothing anywhere near me ( Southend) . I tried Rayleigh Hi Fi and they just suggested Focals which were fine except they were £1500...

Thanks.

I've auditioned both the DC6T's and RS3's at home but connected to my old Rega Brio 2000 amp, all before I purchased my present home cimena set up.
I liked both, there was not a lot in it, although the RS3's were more musical with my amp. They are lovely speakers and will be on my initial short-list when I start looking again.
But if the RS3's second hand are a good price, I'd be tempted, but ideally you will need to get a matching Rega centre speaker (VOX I think) to get the most from home cinema.
At the time my budget would not stretch that far, so I went for the more affordable MA BX range for HC.

IMO you need to think about what you want eventually (2.1, 5.1 etc) and decide on your budget and which range you can afford.

Thanks for the info . It seems to be so difficult to audition all the options .I envy the people that can either travel of have the audition rooms nearby. That would really help to decide as I need to wifey to agree !

Even the wood veneer finish is important to the other half as it has to match and only the DC4t is available in Oak.

i did think initially when I got the Bostons that they would be good enough . But after a year or so I am not happy with the definition of the sound for TV and also the music reproduction . But for £250 what was I expecting .

I am hoping to keep to 2 floorstanders and if I need to a centre. I really dont want a sub as i find it objectionable in most films and I end up turning it down.

Anyway , I am really tempted by RS3s and I would be by DC6Ts if they were available for a £400ish . Mind you I see Peter Tyson has the DC6T for £539 which sounds excellent, with free delivery.

Oh crikey, decisions, decisions.....

Dali do a light oak finish & would be a better pairing than Tannoy speakers with the Yamaha. From my experience I found the Tannoy DC4 speakers went far better with a Pioneer amp. Then again it is all down to indivuidual taste of course.

Regards .

Would that be the zensor 5s as I prefer floorstanders .

so difficult without the ability to hear them all. Is there a decent hi if show any time soon ? The only ones I've seen are for real audiophiles , which is great but out of my league.

thanks for info onthe Dalis I do hear good reports of them.

I always listen through my AVR and 5.1 setup for TV broadcasts - using one of the surround modes on the amp, the centre speaker does most of the work for speech - so IMO the centre is a must.

Maybe for later on, but I found the addition of a sub to be a real step up in performance/enjoyment levels - for films in particular - so don't rule one out in the future.

Yep, no problem with a centre but really don't watch films much so I will have to see how it goes. I see Richer Sounds do Dali Zensor 5 and Tannoy Dc6T. Not that far from me so a visit is going to be planned

looking forward to it now.

I will do my best, but bear in mind I only have Yamaha AV amp or the Marantz if i bring that in the lounge! I will certainly try out with my turntable as the Yamaha has a phono input which is handy.

When I get my spare room finished I would like to try out the RS5s against my old Diesis and the Ditton 332s.
