Hi Guys, have moved from Tannoy m4 floorstanders,mc centre and m1 rears to BW M1s x5 with Denon avr 3310 and a bk xxls

400 sub.Any help and set up suggestions would be welcome .So far not over the moon with results.Set phase to o and

frequency to 120 and gain to 7 oclock pos to blend in with the bw,s but bass to me is no more than with the Tannoy floorstanding

system, expected the world to move.Moving phase and frequency seems to make no difference to sound at all .If I higher gain

controll bass becomes more wooly and directional and so I keep it just supporting the BWs as it says in manual. Also music is po

or although I am

only using a sony dvdr 510 hdd but it was much warmer richer and detailed than with the BWs. Do the BWs need running in time

and does the sub also gain from say a month or so run in.My first sub sat system so please be gentle with me .

Firstly you've gone from full sized speakers to compact speakers so I would expect a huge difference. With small speakers, the sub has to work a lot harder as it has to cope with more of the low frequencies. Your old speakers are still great speakers and to be honest, when I upgraded from my old Mercurys, it took me a while to get used to the new speakers. I tried Tannoy Revolutions first and they went straight back. They were utterly hopeless other than the centre speaker which was a cracker. I have since moved on to Focus Chorus 800 series (again floorstanders)

What have you set your speaker crossovers to on the AV Receiver? It should be set to 80Hz and the speakers set to SMALL.

On the subwoofer itself, the crossover dial should be set to max as the AV Receiver will determine the crossover (see above). The gain should be set at 12 o'clock for a start but there are no hard and fast rules and it should be set as per what your ears tell you.

Do you have access to a sound meter? I would recommend getting hold of one to integrate your subwoofer better. Maplins sell a Radioshack one if I remember correctly which is the one I use at home. I do make manual adjustments every now and again.

Thanks for the quick reply, spkr xover is set to80 htz,and speakers are set to small on reciever, xover on sub is set to 120 htz max.It is certainly a difference compared to my old tannoy spkrs which filled my room which is only 16 x11 ft easily with a very full rich bass. What about run in time for speakers and sub, also music is poorer as well ,even radio tuner from 3310 is worse via the BWs,any tips ??.
