I can get a pair of 6 months old Guarneri Memento's (including original stands) for the price of a new pair of Cremona Auditor M's.

What do you think? Good deal?

yes but can you listen to them first

also do you get the rest of the warranty

Hmm I emailed the owner. And he told me he has the original receipt and boxes for me but I cannot listen. That put me off

the other option is to go to your local sf dealer and listen there

i presume hes got them all packed up which is why you cant listen

does sound a good deal given you could probably exchange them at an sf dealer pretty readily if you didnt like them plus there is a healthy warranty left assuming that can be passed over to you which the sf distributor can tell you if its the case or not

Yeah I'll have a listen. I'll have a listen at the Audio Physics Scorpion II also as they all sit in the same price range. Thanks for the advice~!

jtein:SnS, from floorstanders (A5) to standmounters (Guarneri)?

Hey Jtein,

I'm not sure yet! But I'm thinking of running the Guarneri's with a REL subwoofer. But ofcourse, I'll be auditioning other stuff. Like the Audio Physics Scorpio II (already heard them quickly and they were great), Cremona M's. The floorstanders that I really want are waay out of my budget like the Magico's M2, Amati Homage, Avalon Indra's, Usher BE20. If I buy those I cannot buy a good amp like Spectral/ Pass labs pre/power combo to acompany them. At least not soon.

Avalon Indra is superb if you like classical or Jazz, Audio Physics Scorpio II is a great all rounder that set a new standard for £4K pair of speakers and Guarneri is just damm right fantastic , I am not sure if it will beat Scorpio II but I would like to try them in my room again!

To be honest I did not hear the Avalon Indra with other types of music. I heard them with Alison Krauss and it was mind boggling to say the least. But OK I need to be honest about the source and the amps too. DCS Puccini + seperate clock, Pass Labs XP10/ Spectral DMA-250, MIT MA cables. A set most of us can only dream of... Back down to earth, I am serious considering the Guarneri's with a PrimaLuna prologue 3/ Spectral DMA-250 (2nd hand) or Audio Physics Scorpio II with the same pre/power combo or a Pass Labs INT-150. Source I'm still considering Supernova CD, AMR 77(7), Marantz CD7 (will be unlikely though as I need to travel very very far to buy one).

Oh and I like Jazz/ Soul / Funk and a touch of classical.

Have to say by looks, although the AP don't look bad the Sonus Faber takes it

SnS, if you're looking at the Cremona M floorstanders, then Magico V2 should be in that price range, perhaps slightly more expensive. Of course, the Amati Homage is in another league.

I've heard a lot about Pass Labs but never reallly listened to them. What about them that makes them so revered?

Well I haven't listened to all of the Pass Labs amplifiers so I can only comment on the ones I've heard. But according to my dealer they have all kinds of 'ahead of the pack' technology and engineering in their amps. I'm not that technical though.. So I can only comment soundwise. They're really powerful, musical , accurate and offer clarity and control in another league. They'll offer control and grip to the most expensive of loudspeakers. They're built like a tank too. But they don't come cheap. So I'm only looking for 2nd hand or demoed versions.

To all the really expensive speaker rooms I've been the brands of amps they use are always Spectral, Pass Labs and to a lesser extent Solution, Audio Research. At least that's the case over here.
