I have a Panasonic SCT460 surround system, but am thinking about replacing it with a Blu-ray version. Will any of the new standalone players accept the push-in cables of my speakers, or will I have to start from scratch?

Failing that, If I bought a new sony Blu-ray player, as I have a Sony 37W5500 lcd, could I play it through my Onkyo CR715 CD system, or do I need a dedicated AV Receiver to enable the various sound modes available through a Blu-ray disc?

Thanks.

my advice is to not get the all-in-one system and get a AV reciever onkyo, yamaha, pioneer etc. i`m sure you can still use those old speakers on the new reciever

Speakers for systems such as the one you have are usually of very low impedance, and can cause problems when used with conventional AV receivers.

thanks andrew but mixing speakers is it good or bad? i.e. front L+R and centre same like the kefs and the bostons for rear surround?
