Sounds like a very promising start, are you still running witha 'negative', vta?

If you are you, need to check the clearance of the cartridge body from the surface of the discs, in use the cartridge suspension will soften slightly and thewhole thing will ride a little lower, just be aware.

Yes, no shims. It doesn't feel like the AT is so much higher than the Elys 2. Have seen pics of Dynavectors and they look like towers in comparison. Will take a closer look this evening, got it all setup 11 p.m. yesterday. The next record to try out will be 'Daft Punks' new vinyl. The Rega RP3 have so much potential, does not think that the Exact can do it justice either. Have seen that Rega have begun in the MC business recently also, in a couple of years they might have affordable MC's.

A conclusion of this project would be: customize the RP3 with a nice MC if possible! Vinyl will never sound better!

Excellent!

It has been quite a while since I was able to get hands on with a decent turntable and my fingers are twitching at the thought, not quite the same satisfaction 'tweaking' the settings in Bit Perfect and iTunes.

The best part of it is that this combo (RP3+AT) is relatively inexpensive, at least comparing in terms of vinyl player combinations. The new Linn MC (isn't it a custom Lyra?) is in a different cost league, as an example.

How much roughly is this combo?

Let's say that the RP3 without cartridge is £475 and that the AT mark II can be found for £200, roughly £700. Compare to Linn which can be £3000 for the MC, as an example. (The recommended price for the AT mark II is probably closer to £500. )

A reason for the extremely silent pickup might be the following explanation from AT: "The MicroLine stylus almost exactly duplicates the shape of the cutting stylus used to produce the original master disc. This enables it to track portions of the groove other styli cannot reach, resulting in extremely accurate tracing of high frequency passages and ruler-flat frequency response within the audible range. The unique multi-level shape wears more evenly, allowing greatly extended record and stylus life."
