Hiya.

i've got around alot of stored music and movies on a 1TB HDD but Im growing increasingly frustrated in my lack of ability to the media around my home. I've just bought an LG TV which allows me to plug a HDD into the side. However this will only let me play movies and will not let me listen to music. I do miss being able to listen to some good quality sound.

I think the Sonos set up is quite appealing as i can control it from the Ipad. This will also be ideal for when we're in the garden in the summer, but im put off by the price because in order to play the music from the Ipad the media would have to be on a NAS. I've got a young family and holidays are more important. I would have to save for the sonos and NAS for some time.

I was thinking for spending some money on a Synology NAS so that i can transfer all media onto that and then use that to stream media to my tv and stereo. There is a network cable port at the back of the telly and this got me thinking about plugging the telly into the router. I've also got the Sky plus box and the PS3 wirelessly into the router.

The only thing is this still doesn't solve the music side of things. Would you spend the money on the NAS first or can you suggest a way of playing my music from my HDD to a decent enough music player without spending over say £150.

Ideas greatly appreciated.

Cheers for that BigBoss, i was also looking at the WD 2TB My Book at £100 odd. I think i like the option to flick through the Ipad and Itunes to play the music.

Well actually, you can plug your existing external HDD to PS3 via USB & play all movies / music through it. If you want to control via an iThingy, then Daveh75's suggestion is quite good. Boxee Box is another option, which is also AirPlay compatible.

The best option of course, remains Sonos. Consider it an investment towards building up a Sonos network in the house.

Ok as money is tight im looking at getting the Phillips Fidelio AD7000W/10 wireless speaker and the WD My Live 2 TB Hard drive for around £200.

My question now is can i keep the music on my hard drive and point Itunes on the Ipad to this and then stream this to the speaker?
