Hi there,

Recently got a new place and am looking for a home cinema set up. Have a budget of approximately $5,000-$6,000 excluding the TV. My living room is approx 4.2m in length and 3.5m in width.

As for the layout, it's fine to have the center speaker below the TV and two front floor standing speakers. However, as I don't have a back wall, the surround speakers will have to be ceiling mounted - may not necessarily have to be flushed with the ceiling, but could be fixed to a ceiling bracket.

Could you guys please point me to a couple of brands I should possibly consider? I am not an audiophile - the main importance for me is the "bass/woofer"; i.e. it has to be pretty damn cinematic when watching Lord of the Rings, if you know what I mean ;)

Cheers guys, thanks in advance!

Am I right in thinking that you are in the United States, rather than in Britain? If you are in the US, then I'm not familiar enough with what equipment is available there to advise, I fear.

However, money goes further in the US that in Britain, so with $5-6,000, even allowing for the cost of an AV Receiver, you should be able to get a very decent 7.1 speaker setup. This would be a good time to plan for Dolby Atmos, but for more details you'll have to search online or consult a dealer.
