Subwoofer question

Are all sub's active?

Is it ok to fit an active sub to a receiver?

I have no idea about them as I get all the base I need from my floorstanders.

Yes, you just connect from the receiver's sub out to the sub's low level input.or alternatively wired in parallel with the front l+r speakers then connected to the sub's high level input if it has them.

Thanks for quick reply Dave.

I asked this question because my son has a new Onkyo 507 which I will be helping him to set up.

He had a Panasonic all in one surround system (don't know which) with a Subwoofer, but not sure yet if it is active or passive.

Would it be advisable to connect a passive (if it is) to the 507, or would it drain it too much?

If it's passive(which probably is being from a HCIAB set-up) you won't be able to connect it to the 507.
