Hey guys,
My price range was about 800$ for a set of speakers to use with my computer in my dorm room. I decided to go with the audioengine A2+s, and I absolutely love them. I also got the audioengine D1 DAC to go along with them. Which I know seems superfluous, because the a2+s already have a built in DAC, but the headphone amplifier is what really sold me, and I love it as well. Lastly I wanted to get a mid-low price range subwoofer, that could get loud, but didn't have to have perfect quality... I went with the "Sony SA-W2500 Performance Line 100 Watt Subwoofer," an active subwoofer.
Unfortunately, after setting everything up and playing some tunes, I found that the speakers were severely overpowering the subwoofer. My belief is that the speakers get louder quicker than the sub. I have the level knob of the sub dialed to max, and when the speakers are intollerably loud, the sub is only tolerably loud.
I currently have my computer connected to the dac by USB, which then connects to the A2+ speakers by RCA, then the output of the A2+ speakers feeds in by RCA into the RCA in of the sub.
I don't think the subwoofer is broken because when i feed the signal from the DAC directly into the sub, and crank up the volume, they do get really loud.
Any advice...?
should i get a different sub? do i have a defective sub?
or do i need to amplify the signal into the sub seperately so that the speakers and sub match up...and would this even be worth the bother?
Thanks again,
Cheers from Colorado!
