Im about to receiver a Pioneer 820 AVR which I intend to connect to my current LG surround sound speakers (5.1 config). Ive looked on the online manual and there is no "bare wire" connection for the sub, only the "Sub Pre Out" socket. This is gonna be a problem as the only wire coming out of the sub is a bare wire which is currently connected the same as all the other speakers.

Is there a way around this at all?

Thanks

Not really, sounds like your current system (an all in one by the sounds of it) uses a passive sub, I.e. The amplification for the low frequency is built into the head unit. Where as the 920 requires an active type sub. You may be able to use the speakers until you can upgrade, but you will definitely need a new sub I am afraid.

ok thought that might be the case.

So, would it be advisable to just get a new sub? If so can u make any recommendations? OR would it be better to get a whole new speaker setup?

Best option would be to get a new full 5.1 setup ideally, what budget do you have?

I would suggest one of either the q-acoustic 2000 cinema package, Boston acoustics soudware xs or the Cambridge audio s215 minx, either of these packages would compliment this amp well.

agreed also consider KEF KHT1005.2 & the Mordaunt Short ALUMNI SYSTEM depending on size & if you want a style speaker package, both priced around £400. I would also suggest you audition with your amp if possible before purchase.
