Hey, odd question perhaps, and not sure which forum to put this in, but do any Hi*Fi or TV shops offer a student discount? I'm a (mature) student going back to do a MSc, and know of some big shops that I can get a discount, but not sure about specialist shops.

I'm just off to check Richer Sounds, but anyone know of any such discounts?

I'll be buying one or two TVs (one for lounge, possible one for bedroom so wife can watch TV while feeding our one week old baby), plus some new equipment to go with one of the TVs (Blu Ray and AV Receiver probably) and I'm thinking of buying an amp and speakers for my keyboard so I don't need to rely on my (distinctly un hi-fi) computer speakers any more.

(yeah, it seems unlikely, but there are some odd shops offering discounts. Homebase didn't though, when I asked them ;) )

Hi,

I don't know of any student discounts. I used to work for the local council and they had 'deals' with some local shops - the Sony Centre was one of them, any discount I would be eligible for was off the RRP. I usually found that negotiating with the salesman got a better deal than the 'council discount'.

If you are buying a lot of equipment, using one store and negotiating can sometimes get you a bigger saving than shopping at 3 or 4 stores who advertise cheaper individual prices.

Happy shopping.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
