Hi have been monitoring prices and specs on 50 inch plasmas since Jan. I want to watch HD (from Sky HD and sometimes BluRA) but I hate judder! and pay 1500 or so. I have almost bought the PZ70 several times, but saw it judder something awful recently on some post movie credits (the lines jumped....really jumped) So what about the 700 or do I have to wait for the 80s, but now I hear that the 80 and 85 wont be any better and that only the 800 would be any good if, as I have been assuming, the judder is due to 24fps compatibility. I would like some help deciding since I have seen so many tvs, but have had trouble just heading down to my 'local speciality shop'..My local sevenoaks only sell Pioneers which were too expensive. thanks

I'm no huge fan of the PZ70 but I'm surprised you saw it juddering so badly. I've seen it with Blu-Ray and thought it did a pretty good job. It could be that I'm less sensitive to the judder than others. Another, and more than likely' possibility is that the player may not have been set up properly to output 1080p24. It could've been set up to play a Blu-Ray movie at 1080i60hz which could be another explanation for the judder. Just a possibility.

The PZ70 doesnt support 24fps, the model 80/85s do. So they should be smooth as a babies bottom.

By all accounts, they are.

Why stick solely with Panasonic? I have the Samsung PS50-P96FD which is Full HD and 24fps compliant and I can confirm that there is no screen judder when watching Blu-Ray at its native 1080p 24fps. It aslo copes with both SD very well and the HD channels look fantastic, and with a little webbing is easily found for under £1200.

Definitely consider the Samsung and the Panasonic but, if you can stretch to it, also consider the Pioneer 508XD. OK, it's 'only' HD Ready but it's still better than almost every Full HD set there for overall picture quality and it handles Blu-Rays beautifully with absolutely no judder. I think it can be found for about £1700 on the web. Definitely worth a demo, especially if you sit more than 8ft away from your set (at which point the benefits of Full HD over HD Ready become questionable - remember that resolution is not everything).
