Please advice from which side to start to improve my stereo sound? I would like to have bigger sound image, more dynamics, punch and more details…

My system components listed in my signature. Also I am looking forward to buy a turntable (Pro-Ject Debut Carbon) and CD player (Marantz CD6005?!).

P.s. will I really upgrade stereo sound by adding power amp (which one) to my Yamaha RX-A830 AVR? Or maybe it is waste of money and I need to buy better AVR?:)

Hi there how are you?

Do you mean you want to improve the stereo image of your whole surround sound system or just for your front pair of speakers?

Also can you tell us roughly what the room size is that you have your HT in?

I have a Cambridge Audio P500 power amp on the fronts of my HT. I do get alot more clarity and a better stereo image with this addition.

If it's just the stereo image for music playback then the addition of a DAC should give you more punch. Of course your system already has a DAC otherwise you would only hear digital noise and not music of movie sound. Try a seperate DAC. See if a friend has one to try on your system or go and have a listen to some at a Hi-Fi specialist.

Get you speakers at least 2 meteres apart and away from the walls. This depends on room size of course. Try putting your speakers in different positions while someone is sat in your favourite listening position. When they say the sound is clearer and has more punch that's where your speakers should be.

Let us know how you get on.
