Hello,

Hoping someone might have a bit of wisdom on the above problem. I'm talking to my dealer and am in process of getting some quotes but thought I'd see if there if there were any helpful comments on the forum.

This occurred a couple of weeks after the amp came back from Germany for an in warranty repair, (now out of warranty). Repair was to the PSU, (amp kept cutting out to protect itself). Dealer says this fault can't really be related and is just a separate fault. I've tried out different speakers and it's definitely the amp.

Initially re-attached the speaker, (binding post), and it seemed to clear it up, but quickly came back. Pre-out of the same channel is abolutely fine.

For me eems to point to amplifier circuit for this channel only, but wondering if anyone has any thoughts on causes, anything to try, potential fixes, and if this is likely to be costly or fairly cheap? Is it worth doing a factory reset as I've seen suggested on internet?

If anyone's got any observations or suggestions at all it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Ian.

Hi Ian, had a similar problem last year with my old SR5200, except in the right channel. Took it to a local specialist who diagnosed it as a faulty DSP board which would have cost £349 + VAT!! (more than the receiver originally cost). I've tried to find the board cheaper, but so far have drawn a blank. This probably doesn't help, but if you've had to have the PSU replaced, the faulty one could have caused a spike which fried the board.

Thanks. I guess I should mention that it occurs with the test tone from the amp.

Would this potentially still indicate the DSP board? Also taking into account that via the pre-outs the sound is fine?

I may do a bit of experimenting then get it back in to the delaer, but get a different hi fi repair place to look at it if they say it isn't related to the orioginal fault.

Sick of being without an amp though when it's away!
