Squeezebox Wireless Troubleshooting

I have been having intermittent problems with my Squeezebox receiver which may seem to relate to the connection. It keeps dropping the sound out - sometimes even resetting itself - it's like it gets all out of sync along with my ipod/server too and now the ipod is slow in operation. Didn't use to be like this at all, just started a couple days ago. I have a gut feeling it may relate to the freebie sky (sagem) router. Any thoughts?

This happened to me when I first went through the set up process. I assumed it was something to do with iPeng at the time. It often went out of sync with squeezecenter - sometimes saying a different song was playing when clearly it wasnt it.

Now this isn't in any way likely to help you but I just did nothing as I was fed up with a weekend of taking forever to get it working at all and the next time I booted up the pc I had no problems at all!

rubbish advice (not advie at all really!) but at least you arent the only one to experience the problem.

Thanks anyway - good to know I'm not alone. It's been annoying me big time. Seems like this wireless lark is a complete waste of time (you don't get issues with wires do you!) I thought initially I was going to enjoy everything it had to offer but now I would prefer to resort back to my CD player.

Like now for instance - the receiver is showing 'bright white' which should indicate that music is being streamed and guess what??? - I've got nothing playing through the speakers! Feels like I have been ripped off, been sold something which should still be in the development stage!

I had recently upgraded iPeng to the new version and also the Squeezebox server to 7.4.0 - not sure if this is why, tbh I've had enough of f**king around with it

Yep I had those problems too with the white light! I have mine set up as wireless but still plugged in via ethernet just in case!!!

Im sure I read elsewhere that upgrading either or both of iPeng and Squeezecenter (especially to 7.4) can knock things out of sync and require a full reset of the squeezebox and then a reentering of all the settings via dos. Pain in the toosh and Im sure those with the proper controller dont have the same issues but once working I love my system.

I found that having the ethernet cable in has certainly kept things from dropping out or mucking up. I might test the waters and go for full wireless to see how I get on. I'll probably end up in full Hulk mode within a day though...

I've seen a fair few people complaining about various problems that upgrading to 7.4 has caused, so if your problems started soon after upgrading its worth trying going back to an older version to see if it corrects it

If you have a flaky router then you will not get the best out of Squeezebox.

I have changed to 7.4 and would suggest the following:

- make sure the software on Squeezecentre AND the controller are both 7.4.
- reset the receiver
- reset the controller
- switch off (30 seconds) and switch back on your router

Thanks guys for your comments. It appears to be working fine today and yesterday for that matter! It's not something you should have in the back of your mind though - everythime I want to listen to music is it actually going to work.
