i have reset some options on my laptop and now the laptop is on 24/7 so i can use the squuezebox i have someone set it up so when the squeezebox is not outputting anything for 15mins my laptop hibernated and then when i pick the duet controller up and selected a song 20seconds later it woke up and all is good. my friend is in newcastle and im in leicester and ill have to get it to him but just on the off chance is there an idiot guide on how to do this. Like i said its not really a problem leaving my laptop on next to the hifi under the stairs.

Not sure, but think this would be "Wake on LAN", so that the laptop springs into life when it receives ethernet activity.

I would suggest googling Wake on LAN and your operating system and see what you get back.

Or post a reply stating what your operating system is.

haha i borrowed my ethernet cable for someelse and that makes sense or when i noticed it. my friend is sorting an email out so i will make another cable at work tomorrow and see if it comes back. i thought wifi would not make a differance. many thanks for pointer.

You may well be able to set WOL on the Wi-fi card in the same way as ethernet. If using Windows, look at the device properties in Device Manager.

just been on to accer and they claim that laptops are made to be on 24/7 and should be turned off as little as possible and that many laptops will start to perform best when its been on for over 3years seems crazy.
