Not sure if this is the appropriate Forum but here goes.

As a Brit working in the Middle East is there any "legal way" for me to access Spotify. Please don't get me wrong I'm not looking at proxy servers hiding my actual location whatever, rather if i were to take out when back in the UK a Spotify Premium subscription can I use it here in the Middle East utilising the 14 day "vacation" period thing? As in a sort 14 days on 1 day off and repeat type scenario.

Reasonably happy streaming Napster through an Airport Express (using Airfoil) but I'd really like to take advantage of the higher quality Spotify feed if at all possible.

Not good news I am afraid regarding access abroad. From the Spotify site

"What countries is Spotify available in?
Spotify is currently available in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France and Spain. We hope to launch in more countries in the future.

I live in an overseas territory which belongs to one of the 6 countries above, but can't create an account, why?
Due to technical and legal issues, Spotify isn't available in several overseas territories belonging to Finland, France and the UK, among other countries. This is why you get the error message "Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions we are not yet available in your region" when you try to create an account. If you live in one of those territories, we apologise and we invite you to keep an eye on the blog for any updates on this subject.
When will Spotify Free be available in my country?
At this time we don't know when we may launch in more countries."

Otherwise, you when home you can take out Premium for a month at a time minimum. I do see another way around your predicament.

Better news......

"Premium members can be first to listen to new albums before they go on open release, get entry into exclusive ticket lotteries and VIP competitions and take advantage of unrestricted travel access, meaning you can listen to all your music whenever you want, wherever you want."

I understand that with a premium account registered in the UK you have unlimited access when abroad. The 14 day limit is for free users.

Thanks for that and hmmmm that sounds encouraging. Think I might get my wife to subscribe and send me the details.

Veri, well spotted, sorry 2oldnslow. Premium gives you "Travel access. Go anywhere in the world and listen to your favourite music."

Hey no problem idc. Just happy to hear that despite my ex-pat status I can join the spotify revolution. I'll be getting my wife to take out a premium subscription back at home in the UK asap.

I suffer with a very patchy internet connection here so the clincher for me is the Spotify off line mode. Currently I'm using Napster with whom I took out a subscription having bought a Sonos system over Christmas but with my connection the way it is at busy times of the day it spends more time buffering than it does playing.

So thanks for the info.

Oh by the way in case you're interested a very sunny 22 degrees C here today 🙂

Might suffer with a lack of Hi-Fi outlets but can't fault the weather right now!

I get bandwidth throttling, so Spotify become unreliable in the evening. I download the albums I want to listen to during the day so they are ready to go.

Thanks idc that sounds like it fits the bill for me. I've downloaded the spotify app now just need the account details from my wife and I can start building a play list for offline playback.

Yippee,

my wife has taken out a premium subscription and now as I type my PC is running Spotify syncing a hastily compiled playlist for my listening pleasure when I finish work. Wife intends to use it on her Nokia smartphone having gotten used to having access to a massive library of instantly available music since we bought our home Sonos system just before Christmas.

Have yet to listen to anything myself but as Napster sounds not too shabby on the AV system I have out here I have high hopes. So thanks for the advice. Hmm wonder if I could slide off work early LOL.

Now if only Sonos and Spotify can sort things out.........
