Least expensive way of adding Spotify

Hi there,

I was wondering if any kind hearted soul could offer any tips as to how to add Spotify to my system.

I have a Synology Nas which links to my Pioneer N50 network player which sadly Pioneer saw fit to offer no Spotify support or future updates to accomodate its use. I wish to stream Spotify Premium via a series of android devices. I believe I'm correct in saying that if I was an apple person, Airport express may have bene an option? So are there any cheap, cheerful but reliable solutions for an Android user? I really would like to keep cost, box size and number to a minimum.

Many thanks

Use Bluetooth with something like this ...

... just connect with a 3.5mm - RCA lead as pictured ...

You'd just need the Spotify App on each of your Android devices and Spotifiy Premium on your PC or Mac (although I guess you already have that) ...

Thanks for the input, it's definitely steered me in the right direction as I was getting lost in software applications, Logitech Squeezeboxes and everything inbetween. ;-)

Looks good for 37 quid delivered. A kickstart product that has good reviews. The difference in price between this and the Arcam Miniblink obviously played a part but I'm happy with wifi and ethernet connection.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

You are aware that in order to get your Gramofon to work you havs to download and install the "Fon" application that opens your network up to other users of the Fon network?

Are you comfortable with that?

I used to have spotify premium, and a spotify connect receiver. But then I switched to another receiver without spotify connect. I then bought a chromecast, and always hoped spotify would launch an update supporting chromecast. Instead, they refused to do this and even prevented independent developers from connecting spotify with chromecast (good job spotify with your bullcr*p business plan that makes absolutely no money and refuse to provide support for wider usage).

At this point I switched to Google Play Music. Still happy with it, library not quite as large as spotify, but I rarely encounter tracks that I can't find in google music, and you can upload your own music to the google play library which allows you to stream this music to all android devices.

So maybe google play music + chromecast is an option for you? Prices are equal.

No, I dit not.

After considering this I cancelled the gramofon and decide to go for an upgrade. I've ordered a probox2 with kodi. According to my friend it's even better than Apple-tv.

The other device that is worth a look for hi-fi use in the Amazon Fire TV.

A relatively standard Android streamer but, most importantly, with Spotify Connect built in. Once set up, ptretty much any iThing or android device can control Spotify, using the Spotify app effectively as a remote.

In the comparisons I have made using Connect instead of the usual, stream from iPod/Pad over Airplay, connect sounds crisper and more focussed.

And no, I have no idea why......!

Dave

I read about this on some less than favorable reviews after placing the order. It was then mentioned that Gramofon stopped doing this open network business in November 2014. But to answer your question I'm not happy with an application opening my network up to other users and will definitely cancel my order if this situation remains.

Thanks for the heads up.

Do I have to share my WiFi with a Gramofon?

Not at all! Gramofons no longer have Fon Service (broadcasting of public signal "Fon WiFi"). However, if you received your device as a pledge reward for being Kickstarter backer, or you purchased the device as a preorder, your Gramofon may still have Fon Service enabled and be sharing.

--------------------------------------------------------

I will seek clarification on this tomorrow.

Me too when I have time.

I looked into this last year, the Fon requirement was most definitely in place at that time.

At that point I lost interest and started looking at the Amazon Fire TV, this is what I would buy at this time but with Apple's streaming service (iBeats...?) due this spring, I am waiting to see that.

Some good news, with Deezer joining Tidal and Quboz (among others ) in now commiting to cd quality (flac) playback, it seems that the bar is definitely being raised.

Hi,

I use Minix Neo X8-H as it has digital output which you can connect to your Pioneer N50 and use it's DAC. In the case you have spotify premium you'll just control Minix trough app on your smartphone. not so expensive and it has lots of potencial ... you can download any android app on it.

Cheers,

Tomas
