Hi All,

I rencently upgraded my hifi - Arcam FMJ A38 AMP, Riga Saturn CD player and KEF r300 speakers.

Overall, I am very pleased with the setup, however, I feel it sounds a bit to middy and I'd like to give the top and bottom ends a bit of a push. Given the amp has no tone controls and I'm limited in terms of what my wife will let me do to our living room, I was thinking about alternatives.

I thought about getting an EQ, but amate who owns a recording studio suggested an SPL Vitalizer, which is a piece of studio outboard used in mastering process and allows you to mess around with the frequencies, but with little to no degradation in the original signal.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of using or incorporating studio gear into a home hifi or if anyone had any advice on how I can boost the bass and treble slightly.

An equalizer doesn't add distortion, so I would go with that. Get one that has plenty of frequency bands, and insert it in the tape loop so you can switch it out to compare. The vitalizer is more about audio compression, not really what you want.
