Henryd said:Hi Krolikgena, you asked if anyone familiar with Spendor D1? I have had a pair for a few months now with Naim 555/ 552/ 300 system and am very impressed with performance and clarity, had these to use in a small room with a lot of glass doors and would recommend..

On a separate test I also listed to the B&W PM1's, B&W 685 S2, B&W CM1.
I run musical fidelity A3.5 amp and CD player, and I tested using musical fidelity. For me I would say that the D1's are the best for the frequency range that they cover - increadibly tight sound, natural, revealing and not fatiquing. Voices are quite superb through them. As you would expect they are lacking in bass <50hz, so I decided to get a velodyne sub with them (which are really quite small!). All in all a very pleasing package that is more compact, but better sounding than my old B&W 683's (my new D1's and sub are alot more expensive mind!).
If you can't stretch for a sub to partner the D1's then I would suggest the B&W PM1's, although they are definately larger and I found the high end a little too high / uncomfortable / wincing for my liking with some tracks. The PM1's are amazingly spacious in their sound and are probably better (on paper only?) in alot of areas - but for me the Splendor D1's sounded better. All of the speakers I tested do not match a good stand mounter for bass, so if you want the 100% experience you'd best get a floor stander or a sub to partner.
I didn't really enjoy the sound of any of the other speakers compared to these two.
Happy hunting.
