Spendor BC1 Amp?

I have some Spendor BC1's and wondered what AMP (under £500) would be best suited to drive it?

A totally un-modified Quad 405-2 that has been serviced recently (by Quad themselves preferably).

Ah ok! I was trying them out with a Sony1200es receiver.... Horid!

Then an original Pioneer SX737 - Much better!

But what to go modern..... with a nice sounding amp (pref smooth sound stage).

I'll have a look at the Quad
