Right, going to "pop" into my dealers tomorrow and see about setting up a demo (possibly even a quick listen tomorrow) to the following speakers

Spendor A5

PMC GB1i

Neat Momentium 3i

Neat Petite SX

Not sure they stock NEAT though but will have to dem them elsewhere.

My recent system building has been based on buy before the VAT rise, think this will have to wait till around December so quit a bit of time to choose.

Any opinions on the above?

Pretty much on the button. The only change I would personally make is exchange the GB1s for TB2is.

Good luck

That your lot TB? As in, no others to choose from or is that what you've narrowed the selection down to?

the record spot:That your lot TB? As in, no others to choose from or is that what you've narrowed the selection down to?

Yeah. We want to see at least 25 pairs of speakers on your list including at least 5 obsolete ones from ebay.

We want you to include a pair that can only be demo'ed at a dealer based in a residential property 10 minutes up the road and a pair that can only be bought on the internet. You should then agonise for months about whether 200 hours worth of home demo (for 'running in') is enough for 25 pairs of speakers.

This thread should result in at least one argument for mentioning a pair that only WHF have reviewed so far (with the accompanying accusations that you are an anonymous 'shill' for the designer) and another argument over Naim seperates vs active speakers (preferably AVIs). Someone should ensure you realise that ATC SCM40s are the only sensible choice (despite being capable of blowing all your kitchen cabinets off the wall the first time they get Naim switch on thump through them!)

Someone will tell you that you need Kudos (even though they are really gagging to tell to you how much they hate Naim gear but you are too nice a bloke to say it to outright unlike that despicable Naim lackey/Arcam basher Chebby!)

We would be obliged if you can also slip in a cables controversy somewhere or tell someone that you don't think a pair of £90 plastic bedroom monitors with yellow cones called Rikets (or something) would outperform your system with just a headphone lead and an iPod with 64k downloads.

Once you have made your final choice, buy them, write a glowing report about them, and then post a new thread about how they sound unnatural after a week and start all over again.

All very good choices. The only ones I'd add at that price are the ProAc D18 if you're after a floorstander, or the ProAcD2 if you prefer standmounts.

Clearly, all this waiting for Naim to fine tune the Qute has taken its toll

Best post I've seen for ages chebby

Really?

I am biased as I own a pair, but the Spendor A5 are fantastic. I'd be interested to hear how you rated then against the Neats. Lots of people talk about how Neat work well with Naim, but I found them to be very harsh and screachy together. The Spendor give a more weighty sound in my opinion.

Sorry James, I was commenting on Chebby's humour - which I thought was great (OK, OT, but still good) - not the OP's shortlist of speakers - on which I don't feel qualified to comment.

Well have added some monitor audio gold GS20 (i think) to my demo........but.........the curse of the house has fallen again.........and my main laptop has decided it wants a new motherboard (new PC). Got to sort out a new computer first :-(
