I'm new to posting here...and don't really post anywhere else but I need some advice!

I have an old sony 5.1 av receiver that came 5 small speakers and a sub. I'm listening to music more and more through the system and the sound quality is depressing me! Time to upgrade I think. I'm planning to upgrade the reciever in 2013 but want to start on the speakers now. Can I use bookshelf type speakers in a 5.1 set up?

I'm a bit of an ignoramus with this and any advice will be much appreciated.

Here's my constraints:

Need to be good for music

Not much space so can't be floorstanding

Looking for quality with low budget if possible

Willing to upgrade gradually if needs be.

Bookshelf speakers are fine for 5.1, technically if you use the same for all 5 channels it should be better than a mix n' match set up as long as well matched with a good sub. :)

Someone else will have to recommend particular models though.

looking at the make up of this package I think it may be just about perfect :)

I can get this over time by buying separately too...looking around that way may even save me some cash.

Thanks for your help. Looking forward to payday now to get started!
