Moving hi fi into front room (away from the kids) My wife ordered a chair which is now right in the way of the right hand speaker channel. The shop wont accept the chair back so I am going to have to replace my speaker stands.

My question is at what height would the stands be of an acceptable size without being detrimental to the sound? They would need to be at least 600mm high but I have seen some at 700mm - is this too high?

Best wishes

People say that the tweeter should be at ear height. That said I think the important thing is to avoid floor (or ceiling ) reflections.

I would be worried that a big chair in front of the speaker will make it sound different to the other one - perhaps you should order a second chair?

Depending on the speakers, wallmount brackets might be a good option - they normally allow an angling downwards which helps with the higher frequencies and stereo image height. You can get them that support 15kg for a reasonable price.

Wall mounts might also obviate the need to get the second chair...
