I have some q acoustics 1030i's and I am trying to get hold of a 1000ci
for rears I am torn between 1010i's and the QAV rears.

have not looked at a sub because of the rooms size and too much base, but I guess I could replace the 1030i's with 1010i and purchase a sub. although I would be struggling to keep the sub away from walls.

room is roughly 12x11 see here

thanks

Hi,

I have the Q Acoustics 1030i in a 7.1 setup, i use them as the fronts with a 1000ci centre and 1010i's as surrounds with the 1000si sub. If it were me i would go with the 1010i's as rears as they would give much better integration than the QAV rears plus right now they are very cheap (i've seen them for £50 a pair!). They will provide excellent surround as long as they are installed correctly, if you want to wall mount your rears then you may want to look at the QAV rears as brackets are no longer available from Q Acoustics unless you come across some off the shelf brackets which fit the speakers (unlikely i'm afraid).

As for the sub question you may want to re-consider as i find the sub unobtrusive in my system but again careful setup is required. Unless you set the 1030i's to 'large' in your receivers speaker settings you will need a sub, i tried my 1030i's in 'large' but the sound is far better when they are set to 'small' as only top end speakers benefit from the large setting and consensous on these forums says that only expensive speakers really benefit from the large setting. And when the 1030i's are set to small they really need the sub for the deep bass!

Your room is tricky......awkward shape! Ideally you want the TV and speakers on the long flat wall without any doors, the 11' 10" wall. How practical that is i don't know but that is where you should start as your current setup is not going to get the best from your kit. And if you get surrounds then it is even more important to get the correct placement but looking at your floor plan any setup will involve a compromise as ideally you want a square shaped room.

If you would like any more info just post on here and i will do my best to help.

I could always take the 1030i back to richersounds (only had them 2 weeks, and I think they will replace them within 30days) and get the q acoustics 1000i cinema package..

main reason I didn't in the first place is that I am worried about excessive bass in small room esp with a sub, also I have floorboards in this room, so hollow floor is gonna exaggerate bass even more! or am I wrong?

Ideally I want to mount the rears high up the wall.

cheers

Hello,

Hmmmm....tricky one that! The 1000i cinema package is where i started so i can say with all honesty that it's as fabulous as WHF say it is, the only place it suffers is when using the 1010i's as fronts for music. With half decent stands (soundstyle Z2i) they get more musical but you won't get thumping bass from them, the sub will do almost all the bass duties. But they are by no means rubbish it's just that the 1030i's are more musical as you would expect for the extra cabinet size and price.

I really wouldn't worry about the sub on your floorboards as you shouldn't be able to hear the sub as a seperate channel when properly setup and you can minimse any vibration with rubber pads under the spikes of the sub if that's your concern. Also bear in mind that the 1000si sub is forward firing ie the sub cone faces the front of the cabinet, further limiting the effect of rumble through your floorboards.

If it was me i would get the package....you won't regret it but get good stands for the fronts, they are essential!

Look forward to finding out what you decide to do, best wishes.

Sorry but imo they don't....I have owned both and the 1030i's are more musical than the 1010i's by some distance...i noticed the difference immediately after getting my 1030i's setup, they have more clarity, bass and much better timing. When using the 1010i's as fronts there is no getting away from the fact that they aren't as good for music as a stereo pair, with movies it is not an issue but with music i have to disagree i'm afraid.

Your comment about a slab of granite under the sub....what's that all about? Can't say i've ever come across that idea, any chance you could explain further?? Many thanks
