i have kef 2005.2 speakers the instruction manuel says to set at small setting on amp-- but i prefer the large speaker setting. i have also set the settings on blu ray to large output as this gives a better bass and fuller sound all round. the kef manuel say continued use like this will cause damage to speakers any thought on this welcome .

I don't think that by selecting LARGE speaker setting would harm these speakers, UNLESS if you set subwoofer NONE, the Low Frequency Channel would then be transmitted to these speakers and blow them as they were not designed to handle such heavy effects.

I would prefer to select SMALL as advised because these speakers were not designed to handle full range of audio frequency, and have to work together with subwoofer. I'm afraid that if you set your speakers as LARGE, you will loose some effects since they are not able to deliver enough bass, and seperated them from subwoofer

Can you alter the crossover frequency at all? If so, your ideal would be to try and find a happy medium between the large and small settings.

My B&W M1s are similar in size to your Kefs. The auto set-up has them at 80hz. I get good mid/bass from them at this frequency.

I have some Kef 2005.2 and have the crossover set at 90. I felt this gave a warmer sound. At 8o I felt it was a little bit too bright and clinical.

thanks guys i have set them at 90 i prefer this to 80 i can now relax cheers

Chris, have you tried setting your crossover to more like 120hz? I reckon you are missing out on your subwoofers efforts at 90.

Does setting it to something like 120 start to affect the stereo separation, or does that not start until you get above the 200 limit of a lot of amps? Just wondering.

Give it a go and try. I just think with small sat speakers, the more help you give them from a good sub the better.

That's what the auto set-up set them up as. Didn't really feel the need to tinker.

I'll set them to 100hz tonight and see if there's an improvement.

Thanks for the heads-up Mr Snails.
