Speaker placement against wall

I'm about to buy a Marantz MCR603. Due to have a very smal space in my living room, I can either put the speakers on my hifi stand (60cm wide), my wooden mantlepiece (so around 1.2 metres wide), or CD holder (1 metre wide, 1.6 metres high)

I was thinking the mantlepiece might be better so was going to get Acoustic Energy Compact One Speakers as I know they work well against walls. However, to get them to fit I would need to push them up tight to the wall. When they say they work well against walls do they mean this much up against the wall?!

Thanks in advance for any help

They should be OK but I would look at wall mounting with brackets rather than on a mantlepiece. Best to have them about 6 feet apart about ear level.

I would go as wide apart as you can get them and if you have bass adjustment on the unit turn it down if the speakers are too close to wall.
